Bali Tourist Levy Explained: How To Pay The IDR 150,000 Tax (2026)
Every foreign tourist arriving in Bali pays a one-time fee on top of their visa: the Bali tourist levy. It is small, it is easy to pay, and it confuses a lot of travelers because it is completely separate from Indonesia’s visa on arrival.
This guide explains what the levy is, how much it costs, who has to pay, who is exempt, and how to pay it on the official portal before you fly.
What Is The Bali Tourist Levy?
The levy, officially the tourism levy for international visitors, was introduced by Bali’s provincial government on February 14, 2024. The money goes toward protecting Balinese culture and the environment and improving tourism services. It applies only to Bali, not to the rest of Indonesia.
How Much Is It?
IDR 150,000 per person, per entry, roughly US$9 to US$10 depending on the exchange rate. It is a flat fee, whether you stay three days or two months.
Who Has To Pay?
Every foreign tourist entering Bali, including children and infants. There is no age discount, so a family of four pays IDR 600,000. Indonesian citizens do not pay.
Who Is Exempt?
According to the Love Bali portal and official notices, exemptions include:
- Holders of diplomatic and official visas
- Crew on aircraft and ships
- Holders of KITAS (temporary stay permit) or KITAP (permanent stay permit)
- Holders of certain other visa categories, such as family unification, student and golden visas
Exemptions are not always automatic. Some categories need to apply for the exemption through the Love Bali portal before arrival. If you are moving to Bali on a stay permit, see our guide to the Bali KITAS.
How To Pay The Bali Tourist Levy
- Go to the official portal, lovebali.baliprov.go.id, or download the official Love Bali app.
- Enter your name, passport number, email, nationality and arrival date. You can pay for a group in one transaction.
- Pay IDR 150,000 per person. The portal accepts major credit cards, bank transfer, virtual accounts and QRIS.
- Receive your levy voucher with a QR code by email.
- Save the QR code on your phone and show it if checked on arrival or during your stay.
You can also pay at counters at Bali’s airport, but paying online beforehand saves time in the arrivals hall. If you lose your voucher email, the portal lets you resend it using your invoice and passport numbers.
Levy vs Visa: Two Separate Payments
| Bali tourist levy | Visa on arrival (e-VOA) | |
|---|---|---|
| Who charges it | Bali provincial government | Indonesian immigration |
| Cost | IDR 150,000 | IDR 500,000 |
| Where to pay | lovebali.baliprov.go.id | evisa.imigrasi.go.id |
| Covers | Bali only | Entry to Indonesia, 30 days |
Most tourists pay both, and paying one does not cover the other. You also need to complete the free All Indonesia arrival card. For the full list of what Americans need, see our Bali visa guide for US citizens.
