Puerto Iguazú to Foz do Iguaçu Border Crossing: 2026 Guide
The Tancredo Neves Bridge, also called the Fraternity Bridge, links Puerto Iguazú in Argentina with Foz do Iguaçu in Brazil. Most visitors cross it to see both sides of Iguazú Falls, and long-stay visitors in Argentina use it to leave and come back with a new entry.
Quick Facts
- Argentina side: Iguazú border center, Misiones. Private vehicles 24 hours
- Brazil side: Foz do Iguaçu, Paraná
- Queues: can be long since Brazil began full immigration checks on the bridge
- Nearby: Ciudad del Este, Paraguay, across the Friendship Bridge
Brazil Entry
US citizens have needed a visa for Brazil since April 10, 2025. Tourists apply online for an e-visa through Brazil’s official portal. Canadian and Australian citizens also need one. Most European passports remain visa-free for up to 90 days. Check before you cross, because the Brazilian side does check.
Crossing Step By Step
- Take a bus, taxi or tour across the bridge
- Get your Argentine exit recorded at the border center
- Clear Brazilian immigration
- To return, do the same in reverse and get a new Argentine entry
On some local buses you must ask the driver to stop for immigration. Make sure your exits and entries are recorded, or you can have problems later.
Argentina’s Tourist Stay And Visa Runs
Most Western visitors get up to 90 days in Argentina on arrival. You can apply once for a 90-day extension at a Dirección Nacional de Migraciones office, but most long-stay visitors cross into Uruguay or Chile and come back instead. That still works, but it is not a right. Under Decree 366/2025, border officers can refuse entry if they have good reason to believe a “tourist” is really living or working in Argentina, and they can give fewer than 90 days. Since mid-2025, visitors without permanent residency may also be asked for health insurance covering their stay.
Bring Proof Of Onward Travel
Border officers on a visa run are deciding one thing: will you leave again on time? A confirmed onward or return booking is the quickest way to answer that. It matters most when you are re-entering a country you only just left, and on the flight leg if your run involves one. See whether Brazil asks for proof of onward travel.
If you do not want to commit to a real ticket yet, Fast Onward Tickets issues an onward flight reservation in minutes. See our complete guide to proof of onward travel for what officers and airlines accept.
