Indonesia Digital Nomad Visa: The E33G Remote Worker Visa For Bali (2026)

Bali has been a digital nomad capital for years, but for most of that time remote workers were technically on tourist visas. Since April 2024, Indonesia has offered a dedicated option: the E33G Remote Worker Visa, often called the Indonesia or Bali digital nomad visa.

This guide explains who qualifies, what you need, how to apply, and the limits you need to understand before you move.

What Is The E33G Remote Worker Visa?

The E33G is a limited stay visa for people employed by a company outside Indonesia who want to live in Indonesia while they keep working for that employer. It is issued for one year and leads to a limited stay permit (often called a remote worker KITAS or ITAS) once you are in the country.

It is not a work permit for Indonesia. You cannot work for Indonesian companies or sell goods and services in the local market.

Who Qualifies?

  • You work remotely for a company registered outside Indonesia, with an employment contract or similar agreement
  • You earn at least US$60,000 per year (about US$5,000 per month)
  • You can show savings, commonly cited as at least US$2,000 in your bank account over recent months
  • Your passport is valid for at least six months
  • You have health insurance valid in Indonesia

Documents You Will Need

  • Passport biodata page
  • Recent color photo
  • Employment contract or letter from your foreign employer
  • Bank statements and payslips showing the required income
  • Proof of funds
  • CV and travel itinerary
  • Health insurance details

How To Apply

  1. Create an account on Indonesia’s official immigration portal, evisa.imigrasi.go.id.
  2. Select the Remote Worker (E33G) category.
  3. Upload your documents and pay the government fee.
  4. Wait for approval. Processing typically takes one to two weeks, longer if documents are queried.
  5. Enter Indonesia on the visa and complete any biometric and stay permit steps required after arrival.

Many applicants use a licensed visa agent. That is optional but can help with document checks. Government fees have been reported at around US$150 plus local processing charges; confirm current fees on the official portal.

Taxes

Indonesia has rules that may exempt foreign-sourced income for certain foreigners, but they are conditional and not automatic for every E33G holder. US citizens also remain subject to US tax filing wherever they live. Speak to a tax adviser before relying on any exemption. Our guide to the foreign earned income exclusion covers the US side.

What The E33G Does Not Allow

  • Working for an Indonesian company or local clients
  • Running a business in Indonesia
  • Selling goods or services in Indonesia

If your plans involve any of these, you need a different stay permit. See Bali KITAS explained.
